The Nigeria Hunters and Farmers Security Services (NHFSS) has appointed Tari Oba as Commander of its Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. The appointment marks a significant step in the organization’s ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable populations across Nigeria.

The official announcement took place at the NHFSS headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The NHFSS is a community-based security organization that plays a vital role in maintaining law and order, especially in rural areas. Comprising primarily of hunters and farmers, the organization focuses on crime prevention and control, community policing, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with formal security agencies.

NHFSS Commandant General, Mr. Joshua Oshotimehin, commended Oba for her commitment to national service and charged her to bring her wealth of experience and passion to bear in the fight against human trafficking.

In her remarks, Oba expressed her readiness to work with relevant stakeholders. “I look forward to working collaboratively with NAPTIP and other relevant agencies to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable populations. Together, we can build a safer Nigeria and bring hope to those affected by this scourge,” she stated.

Tari Oba is recognized for her advocacy on women’s rights and youth empowerment.

Her professional background includes serving as Technical Adviser on Agriculture in the Office of the Bayelsa State Governor. With over a decade of experience in conflict resolution, people management, and technical support, she brings a robust skill set to her new role.

Oba is also known for her philanthropic and humanitarian work, reflecting a long-standing dedication to community service. She holds a Master’s Degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Security Studies. She has previously contested in the Bayelsa State gubernatorial election and for the Lekki State House of Assembly seat in Lagos State.

The NHFSS works closely with government security agencies such as the Nigerian Police Force and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to tackle security challenges and promote peace.

Oba’s appointment is expected to strengthen these collaborations and boost the unit’s capacity to curb human trafficking across Nigeria.
